Seemanchal Educational &Welfare Association

SEWA Foundation is a non – profitable organization established on 23rd of June 2020 by Mr. Aadil Affan (Research Scholar JMI) with the guidance and supervision of Prof. Mujeebur Rahman (JNU) with a mission to empower and uplift the economically educationally weaker sections of the people of the Seemanchal region especially the minorities who are at the lowest pedestal of the educational and economic ladder of the region.

Why SEWA?

SEWA stands for Seemanchal Educational & Welfare Association.  Seemanchal region is located in the eastern part of Bihar bordering Nepal and West Bengal. It is a landlocked region comprising five districts; Purnea, Katihar, Kishanganj, Supaul and Araria.Seemanchal region is the most backward region within Biharand rest of the country. The average literacy rate of the five districts (Araria, Purnea, Kishanganj Supaul and Katihar) is 35 percent against Bihar’s average of 64%. The Five districts grossly lack development. Though very fertile, the region is perennially inundated with floods causing devastation to the people of the region who are predominantly engaged in subsistence agriculture since ages. The health facilities too are not well developed. Due to extreme poverty most people can’t think beyond two square meals a day. Condition of minorities is pathetic in the region.

Honorary Chairman’s message:

I think the role of the educated people is not limited to performing their assigned roles as teachers, engineers, doctors etc. only. They should also be committed to work for the upliftment of the poor and weaker sections of the society. All must contribute to the extent possible to the upliftment of the weaker and marginalized sections of society for nation building.

SEWA is a small step in this direction. The Seemanchal region needs cooperation among all sections to work together for raising the standards of people’s living in the region. I appeal to all to support this initiative.

Our Vision & Mission:

To work for the upliftment of the weaker sections of the society in Seemanchal region by providing quality education and by taking measures to improve their educational and economic condition overall to help them join the national mainstream by mobilizing resources for the same and by benefitting from the state government and central govt schemes for the upgradation of the weaker sections of the society.
